Histogram Calculation Options

Use the Histogram Calculation Options window to set options for the bins on the Histogram. (A bin is a range of values. Each bin is represented by the width of a bar on the Histogram.)

Open Histogram Calculation Options by clicking Options on the Histogram window.

 Field

Description...

Number of Bins

The number of bins used to collect the intensity distribution of the image pixels. The first bin starts at the Minimum Bin Value and ends at the Minimum Bin Value plus the Bin Width. The last bin starts at the Minimum Bin Value plus the Number of Bins multiplied by the Bin Width. The end point of the histogram is at Number of Bins multiplied by the Bin Width plus the Bin Width.

Bin Width

The width, in counts, of each bin. By default, the width is determined automatically from the maximum image intensity, the minimum image intensity, and the number of bins. You can manually choose a value for Bin Width by clicking Auto Bin Width to turn off automatic bin width calculation.

Minimum Bin Value

The starting value, in counts, of the first bin in the histogram. By default, the Minimum Bin Value is set to the minimum image intensity. Pixel intensities between the Minimum Bin Value and the Minimum Bin Value plus the Bin Width are counted in the first histogram bin. Pixel intensities that are less than this value are registered in the first bin, and pixel intensities that are greater than the last bin value are registered in the last bin. You can manually choose a value for Minimum Bin Value by unselecting Auto Minimum Bin.
