Scale Image Options

Use the Scale Image tool to adjust how the image intensities are scaled for display. Each wavelength is scaled to be displayed as 8-bits in the image window and the scale parameters determine how the range of intensities are mapped to the available 8-bits of displayed colors.

For example, if your image data intensities range from 0 to 10,000, the scale parameters determine the mapping of 0-10000 to the display range of 0-255. If the minimum scale is 500 and the maximum is 7000, all of the original data values less than or equal to 500 are displayed as zero; all values 7000 and above are displayed as 255. You can also create a non-linear scale by specifying an exponent.

Open Scale Image by clicking the Scale Image Intensities scale_button.gif button on the Image window.

Use

To...

Wave

Specify which wavelength you would like to scale.

Display Min/Max/Exp

Show the current minimum, maximum, and exponent values applied to the image data to scale it for display.

Wave Min/Max

Show the minimum and maximum values for the selected wavelength.

Section Min/Max/Mean

Show the minimum, maximum, and mean values for the current Z section.

Show Histogram

Turn the histogram display on or off.

Note The histogram is a plot of the frequency of intensity values in the current image. If a single intensity value (like zero, for instance) has an abnormally large value, it is drawn with a dashed line and the histogram is re-scaled without consideration to this value.

Log

Change between a linear and logarithmic view of the histogram.

Apply To

Apply the scaling to the entire wave or just the current section.

The Scale Graph

Graphically scale the image.

Restore Default Scale

Restore the minimum and maximum scale values to the statistically-determined default values.

Done

Close the Scale Image tool.
